How to Set Up Layered "Connected Widgets" Drilldowns on the Same Dashboard
Ever wish you could have multiple different widgets powering dashboard-level drilldowns that can layer together? You can, and it’s easier than it sounds.
Here’s how it works: when you click a data point in one widget, it filters all the other widgets on your dashboard based on that selection. For example, clicking a bar for San Francisco in a sales locations chart will instantly update every other widget to show data for that city.
Now imagine doing that with more than one widget, maybe a product chart and a sales rep table, both driving filters that layer on top of each other and affect the entire dashbaord. That’s what layered connected widget drilldowns let you do.
To set it up:
-
Open your dashboard and edit one of the widgets you want to use as a drilldown trigger.
-
Select Dashboard as drilldown type.
-
In the “Drill into” field, choose the same dashboard you’re working on.
-
Be sure to enable Pass-through Dashboard Filters so filters from different drilldowns stack together.
Once saved, each click will narrow down your view, updating the dashboard in real time based on multiple connected drilldowns.
