Operational Alerts send admins an email when scheduled queries, reports, or alerts run into problems anywhere in the account. Knowi checks for new issues every 30 minutes and sends a single batched email per check, so you do not need to monitor each asset individually. This is an opt-in, account-wide setting that is available to admins.
What is Monitored
| Asset Type | Included When |
|---|---|
| Scheduled Query | A scheduled query run completes with an error or a warning. Queries that are not scheduled are not included. |
| Report | A scheduled report run fails or times out. |
| Alert | An alert run fails or times out, or the alert condition is met but the notification could not be delivered (reported with the status ALERT_DELIVERY_FAILED). |
How Alerts are Sent
- Every 30 minutes, Knowi collects all issues from the account since the previous check. The email is typically delivered within a few minutes after each check.
- No email is sent if there are no new issues.
- No email is sent if the issues are the same as the last email (the same assets with the same statuses and errors). This prevents a repeatedly failing asset from sending the same email every 30 minutes. Once a check finds no issues, the next failure is sent as a new email.
- If Custom Mail Server SMTP Settings are enabled, the email is sent through your custom mail server.
Email Contents
The email includes the number of issues found for each asset type and a table of the first 25 issues. The full list of issues is attached as a CSV file with the following columns:
| Column | Description |
|---|---|
| Name | Name of the query, report, or alert. |
| Creator | User who created the asset. |
| Execution Time | Date and time of the run, shown in the account's default time zone (UTC if no default time zone is set). |
| Asset Type | Scheduled Query, Report, or Alert. |
| Status | Result of the run, such as the error or warning code for a query, FAILURE or TIMEOUT for a report or alert, or ALERT_DELIVERY_FAILED for an alert that could not be delivered. |
| Error | Error message returned by the run. |
Enabling Operational Alerts
- Navigate to User Settings and scroll to the Customer Settings section of the Account Settings tab.
- Next to Operational Alerts, click Enable.
- In the Who should alerts be sent out to? field, enter the recipient email addresses as a comma-separated list. Up to 50 recipients are allowed.
- Click Save.
Note: Settings are not saved until you click Save. Each email address is validated on save, and duplicate addresses are removed.
To update the recipients, edit the list and click Save again.
To stop receiving Operational Alerts, click Disable. This takes effect immediately. The recipient list is retained, so it is pre-filled if you enable Operational Alerts again.
